Kawasaki reveals KLX230
233cc motor makes 18.1hp, 18.3Nm of torque.
The Kawasaki KLX230 has been revealed fully and this is the first serious road-going Japanese off-road bike in our country.
At the heart of the KLX230 is a simple, air-cooled, 2-valve, 233cc single-cylinder motor making 18.1hp at 8,000rpm and 18.3Nm of torque at 6,400rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, unlike a 5-speed unit on its primary rival, the Hero Xpulse 200 4V.
This engine is nestled inside a perimeter frame suspended by a gaitered 37mm telescopic fork and monoshock. Aside from preload for the shock, there’s no suspension adjustability on the KLX230. As is typical of an off-road-focused dualsport, there’s plenty of wheel travel: 240mm at the front and 250mm at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 265mm front disc and 220mm rear disc, supplemented by switchable dual-channel ABS.
This is a pretty spartan machine with minimal features and basic bodywork. Displaying all the information to the rider is a simple LCD display, but it does have Bluetooth connectivity. There is also an LED headlight on the KLX230.
Seat height is a towering 880mm but with such a slim motorcycle, getting your feet down shouldn’t be very difficult. There is an optional low seat available, which brings the seat height down to 866mm, which is still quite tall. At 139kg, the KLX 230 is a light bike and is available in two colours – the signature Lime Green and a more muted Battle Grey.
A range of accessories are available for the KLX230 such as crash protection, hand guards, luggage rack, USB-C charger and handlebar pad.
Kawasaki hasn’t shared the price of the KLX230 today; it will only be revealed in December. However, bookings are open from today for a token amount of Rs 5,000 and deliveries will begin from January 2025.
