Electra EV, the Pune-based EV startup which has been making electrification kits for Tata Motors' passenger vehicles – Tigor EV and Xpres-T EV – is working on at least 12 projects that are likely to see the light of day by end-CY24, revealed Sumeet Dhar, COO, Electra EV.

“We have electrified over 6,000 Tata Tigor EVs over the last few years, and outside of Tata Motors, we are working on at least 12 new projects that are going to see the light of day in the next 6-9 months,” says Dhar.

The company, which is backed by Tata Group Chairman Emeritus, Ratan Tata, says that while Tata’s belief of a four-wheeler being safer compared to a two-wheeler has trimmed the startup’s potential to scale rapidly, it is now switching to various other segments beyond passenger vehicles.

“India has become the hotbed for innovation in the electrification space. Contrary to ICE, which took over a century to perfect, e-mobility startups have tried to perfect their technology within a span of less than a decade. While this is primarily because of the democratisation of technology that is enabling companies to develop faster, technology suppliers must focus on reducing the time even further. If a company can offer tools deployed in the design of motors, controllers, and battery packs at a democratised price, the scale will go through the roof,” he said.
