Spanish defense company collaborates with Indian technology firm to manufacture aerospace and defense solutions.
Spanish multinational defense company Indra signed a strategic agreement with Indian technology solutions provider AXISCADES to collaborate on production of aerospace and defense systems in India during the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget.
The memorandum of understanding was executed by Indra CEO José Vicente de los Mozos and AXISCADES Chairman Dr. Sampath Ravinarayanan, with Indra Chairman Angel Escribano and AXISCADES CEO Alfonso Martínez present at the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, AXISCADES will manufacture several Indra defense solutions in India, including antennas for Tactical Air Navigation Systems (TACAN), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) that provides in-flight information to aircraft, and countermeasure systems designed to protect aircraft from missile attacks using guided systems such as MANPADS.
The partnership enables Indra to acquire defense-related products and services from AXISCADES through the Indian company's design, development, production, and supply chain operations. Both companies plan to explore joint product development for Indian and global markets, potentially adapting existing Indra products or creating new solutions tailored to customer requirements.
The collaboration aims to strengthen Indra's position in the global aerospace systems market while enhancing capabilities of Indian defense companies. Indra has maintained operations in India for several years, delivering systems to the country's Armed Forces and supporting civil air traffic management modernization projects.
The companies are evaluating additional collaborations in Maritime Patrol Aircraft Airborne Solutions and exploring partnerships for Defense Research and Development Organisation Combat Aircraft Systems Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance and Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft programs.
AXISCADES brings over 25 years of experience in aerospace, defense, and Electronic Systems and Industrial Automation sectors, offering solutions from conceptual design through manufacturing and certification for Original Equipment Manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers.
Indra operates as a leading Spanish multinational defense, air traffic and space company with presence in 49 countries and business operations in over 140 nations. The company reported revenue of €4.843 billion in fiscal year 2024.
