India Signs First Defence MoU with Slovakia Through JCBL Group
JCBL's defence arm partners with Slovakia to develop indigenous combat vehicle technologies, strengthening India's defence manufacturing capabilities and self-reliance initiative.
India and Slovakia have signed their first defence Memorandum of Understanding, with JCBL Group's defence unit Airbornics Defence & Space Pvt. Ltd. (ADSL) set to co-develop technologies for next-generation combat vehicles under India's indigenous manufacturing initiative.
The agreement, finalized during Indian President Droupadi Murmu's state visit to Slovakia today, focuses on developing and manufacturing crucial combat systems for light tanks, including turrets, active protection systems, remote-controlled weapon systems, and human-machine interface modules.
"This partnership represents a convergence of trust, technology, and transformation. It aligns with our core belief in the Make-in-India vision," said Rishi Aggarwal, Managing Director of JCBL Group, who joined the presidential delegation to Slovakia.
The partnership aims to facilitate technology transfer and co-development of combat platforms designed for complex terrains and high-altitude environments, with all manufacturing to be conducted in India. The collaboration may also open opportunities for future defence exports by combining Slovakia's technological expertise with India's manufacturing capabilities.
This development comes as India continues to reduce dependence on foreign defence imports. The country has been working to build domestic defence manufacturing capacity through various policy initiatives since 2014, when the government launched its "Make in India" program with defence manufacturing as a key sector.
ADSL specializes in aerospace systems, defence platforms, and armored vehicles. The company holds several quality certifications including ISO 9001:2015 and AS 9100D for Aerospace Quality Management Systems.
JCBL Group, founded in 1989, has expanded from mobility solutions to various sectors including defence, railway components, agriculture, and finance. The conglomerate, currently valued at $206.02 million, has previously partnered with global brands such as Daimler, Toyota, and Harley-Davidson.
Defence analysts note this agreement represents another step in India's efforts to strengthen its position as a self-reliant defence manufacturer while developing strategic international partnerships that bring advanced technologies to its domestic industry.
