The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has signed two technology transfer agreements with Cathion Energy Private Limited to commercialise advanced lithium ion battery components. The agreements, finalised on May 22, cover the transfer of novel composite electrode technologies developed by Professor Anjan Sil.
The transferred innovations are designed to improve the electrochemical performance, energy density, and overall charging efficiency of rechargeable batteries. The IP rights cell of the sponsored research and industrial consultancy unit at the institute facilitated the licensing of the technologies. The research aims to address the increasing demand for high performance energy storage solutions across the electric mobility, portable electronics, and renewable energy sectors.
Cathion Energy chief executive officer Hari Raj stated that the collaboration will help translate laboratory scale research into industrial applications. The company plans to leverage the newly acquired technologies to manufacture components that support the rapidly evolving domestic energy storage ecosystem and improve overall battery performance.
