IIT Roorkee and SkyySkill Academy Partner to Launch Electric Vehicle Training Courses
The E&ICT Academy will offer online and lab-based EV certification programmes for engineering graduates, diploma holders, and working professionals across India.
The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), through its Electronics & ICT Academy (E&ICT Academy), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SkyySkill Academy to launch certification courses in Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology. The announcement was made on May 20, 2026, from Roorkee, Uttarakhand, and marks a formal step toward structured workforce training in a sector that has seen rapid expansion across India in recent years.
The courses target engineering graduates, diploma holders, and working professionals seeking specialised knowledge in electric mobility. The curriculum covers a range of technical areas, including EV architecture, battery technologies and management systems, electric motors, power electronics, charging infrastructure, diagnostics, safety systems, and vehicle energy optimisation. According to the institutions, the programme is structured to balance academic content with applied, hands-on learning.
Instruction will be delivered through live online sessions, practical lab exposure, structured assignments, and capstone projects based on real-world EV scenarios. Each participant is required to complete a capstone project designed to demonstrate applied problem-solving and build a professional portfolio. The programme is aimed at preparing learners for roles in manufacturing, research and development, and EV service operations. Participants who complete the programme and its assessments will receive a certificate from E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee.
Prof. Sanjeev Manhas, Chief Investigator at E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee, said the collaboration was aimed at strengthening industry-academia engagement. "The rapid growth of electric mobility requires a skilled workforce with strong technical knowledge and practical expertise," he said, adding that the partnership seeks to equip learners with relevant skills to support India's evolving EV ecosystem.
Himansu Sekhar Panda, CEO of SkyySkill Academy, noted that electric mobility is reshaping the automotive sector at pace and that targeted, practice-oriented training would be key to meeting the industry's workforce demands. He said the partnership with E&ICT Academy was intended to deliver high-quality learning programmes that prepare candidates for careers in the EV industry.
The collaboration reflects a broader trend of academic institutions partnering with specialised training organisations to address skill gaps in emerging technology sectors. India's electric vehicle market has grown considerably over the past few years, driven by government policy, rising fuel costs, and increasing consumer adoption of two- and three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial transport. Despite this growth, industry stakeholders have consistently flagged a shortage of trained technical personnel in areas such as battery systems, power electronics, and EV servicing.
The E&ICT Academy is an initiative supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It focuses on capacity building, advanced training, and skill development in electronics, ICT, and emerging technology domains. SkyySkill Academy has previously delivered training programmes in EV technology, drone technology, and other advanced engineering fields, and has trained students across multiple states in India.
IIT Roorkee, established in 1847, is one of India's oldest technical institutions and holds the status of an Institute of National Importance. It offers programmes across engineering, sciences, management, architecture, and the humanities.
