Hyundai Launches Updated IONIQ 5 in India at ₹55.70 Lakh

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) on Tuesday launched the updated IONIQ 5 electric SUV in India, priced at ₹55.70 lakh (ex-showroom), fitted with a larger 84.0 kWh battery pack that is ARAI-certified for a driving range of up to 690 km.

The updated model retains its E-GMP platform but receives changes across its exterior, interior, onboard technology and safety systems. On the outside, the car gets revised front and rear bumpers, new skid plates, a new alloy wheel design, a restyled rear spoiler and a new V-garnish lighting element.

Inside, the steering wheel has been replaced with a 3-spoke leather unit featuring an illuminated 4-dot design and a heating function. The centre fascia has been redesigned and the wireless charging pad now incorporates physical controls for heated and ventilated seats. The dual 12.3-inch infotainment and cluster display setup is carried over.

On the technology front, the IONIQ 5 now features a Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system, Controller Over-the-Air (C-OTA) update capability, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Active Sound Design and in-car payment for EV charging. A new remote immobilisation feature has been added via Hyundai's Bluelink platform for anti-theft protection.

Safety additions include Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist – Rear (PCA-R) and Side Parking Distance Warning (PDW-Side).

Commenting on the launch, Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said: "The Hyundai IONIQ 5 stands as a true testament to our vision of redefining electric mobility. Having secured the prestigious World Car of the Year title along with multiple global accolades and being recognised as the Green Car of the Year at Indian Car of the Year Awards, the IONIQ 5 has set new benchmarks in design, technology and sustainability. With its strong global success and positive customer response across key markets, including India, the IONIQ 5 has played a pivotal role in shaping Hyundai's electric mobility journey. With the introduction of the new Hyundai IONIQ 5, we are building on this strong foundation by offering meaningful product upgrades that enhance driving range, technology and everyday convenience. These enhancements further strengthen the IONIQ 5's appeal as a premium, future-ready electric SUV."

The car is available in four exterior colours — Gravity Gold Matte, Midnight Black Pearl, Titan Grey and Optic White — all with an Obsidian Black interior theme.

The facelift builds on a model that has already earned strong independent validation in India. Since its arrival in early 2023 at ₹44.95 lakh, the IONIQ 5 has been recognised with long‑term testing confirming real‑world range figures of 440–460 km in Mumbai traffic and ride quality tuned for Indian roads. Reviewers consistently pointing out omissions such as wireless smartphone mirroring have now been addressed with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the updated version.

Commercially, however, the IONIQ 5 has remained a niche product. Hyundai India reported its highest annual numbers in FY2024, yet volumes were modest: 504 units in the first 11 months of 2024 and 333 units across the same period in FY2025, making it the lowest‑selling model in the portfolio. For Hyundai, the car has functioned less as a volume driver and more as a halo showcase, helping the brand win mindshare in the premium EV space while the Creta Electric carried mass‑market sales.

By stepping up to an 84 kWh battery and extending ARAI‑certified range to 690 km, Hyundai is directly addressing range anxiety — the single biggest consideration flagged by buyers and reviewers alike. At the same time, the facelift strengthens the IONIQ 5’s position against a growing field of entry‑level luxury EVs such as the Kia EV6, BMW iX1 LWB, BYD Sealion 7 and Volvo EX30.
