Hyundai India Marks 25 Years of Exports, Ships 3.7 Million Vehicles Since 1999

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has exported 3.7 million passenger vehicles since beginning its export operations in 1999, the company announced on February 14, 2025. The automaker currently exports to over 60 countries, with Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, and Peru emerging as its largest export markets in 2024.

The company exported 158,686 vehicles in calendar year 2024, maintaining its position as India's largest passenger vehicle exporter. Africa has been a significant market for HMIL, receiving over 1 million vehicles cumulatively.

HMIL Managing Director Unsoo Kim said the company aims to become Hyundai's largest export hub outside South Korea. The manufacturer recently began exporting the Exter model to South Africa, marking its eighth India-made vehicle in that market.

The i10 model family has crossed 1.5 million export units, while the Verna series has exceeded 500,000 units in cumulative exports. Other models in the export portfolio include the Creta and Alcazar.

Over the past 25 years, HMIL has shipped vehicles to more than 150 countries, contributing to India's foreign exchange earnings through automotive exports. The company operates manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu.

The milestone comes as India's automotive exports continue to grow, with manufacturers increasingly using the country as a production hub for global markets. Hyundai's achievement reflects the broader trend of international automakers expanding their Indian manufacturing operations for both domestic and export markets.
