Himadri Speciality Chemical Receives CDP Supplier Engagement Leader Recognition

Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd has been named a CDP Supplier Engagement Leader for 2024, earning an 'A' rating for its climate action efforts across its supply chain. The recognition places the Indian company among the top-rated firms globally for driving environmental initiatives with suppliers and partners.

The Carbon Disclosure Project awarded Himadri the highest rating across several categories including Supplier Engagement, Scope 3 Emissions Verification, Risk Management Processes, and Governance & Business Strategy. These areas evaluate how companies work with their supply chains to address climate-related risks and reduce emissions.

The achievement represents rapid progress for Himadri, which received a 'B' rating in its first CDP Climate Change and Water Security Evaluation in 2024. The company advanced from this initial assessment to Supplier Engagement Leadership status within one year.

Himadri operates as a specialty chemical manufacturer with facilities across India and exports to more than 54 countries. The company produces materials for lithium-ion batteries, specialty carbon black, coal tar pitch, and other chemical products used in industries including automotive, construction, and energy storage.

The company has implemented zero-liquid discharge systems across its eight manufacturing facilities and uses clean energy sources for all electrical power needs. These operational changes support its broader sustainability strategy that extends beyond internal operations to include supplier partnerships.

The CDP, formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, operates a global disclosure system that tracks corporate environmental performance. Companies receive ratings from A to D based on their climate action efforts, with 'A' representing leadership-level performance.

Himadri's recognition comes as companies face increasing pressure from investors and regulators to address climate risks throughout their supply chains. Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions from suppliers and customers, often represent the largest portion of a company's carbon footprint.
