Henkel India Initiates Mid-Haul Electric Truck Operations for Commercial Logistics
The pilot connects key industrial routes using re-powered electric trucks with an estimated 250 km per charge.
Henkel Adhesive Technologies, in collaboration with a logistics provider and an EV retrofitting partner, has flagged off India’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations for commercial logistics. The initiative was launched to advance sustainable freight movement between major industrial corridors.
The pilot covers two initial routes: Chennai to Pune (1,321 km) and Pune to Halol (713 km). The re-powered trucks are equipped with a complete electric powertrain kit, offering a payload capacity of up to 8 tons and a range of 250 km per charge. One round trip between Chennai and Pune is expected to save approximately 1,212 kg of GHG emissions.
According to Henkel, climate mitigation is central to its sustainability strategy. The company is working toward a net-zero target by 2045, aiming for significant reductions in scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
"This shift from conventional drivetrains toward sustainable alternatives such as re-powered electric trucks will go a long way in abating our logistics emissions," the company said.
Henkel plans to reduce value chain emissions by improving eco design, using low-emission materials, engaging suppliers, and deploying carbon-efficient logistics practices.
