Greaves E-Mobility launches new Ampere Primus and updated Zeal EX
First revealed at the Auto Expo, the Ampere Primus is equipped with a new 3kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery and has a claimed range of 107km.
Greaves Electric Mobility, the EV arm of Greaves Cotton, today launched the Ampere Primus e-scooter, priced at Rs 109,900 (ex-showroom except North Eastern states). The Ampere Primus was first revealed at the Auto Expo 2023 last month, as part of the company's showcase of six EVs which comprises three e-scooters and a trio of electric three-wheelers.
The new Ampere Primus is powered by a mid-mounted motor that develops peak output of 4kW. Ampere claims the Primus can do 0-40kph in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 77kph top speed. The Ampere Primus is equipped with three riding modes – Power, City and Eco – as well as a Reverse mode.

The Primus e-scooter gets a 3kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery claimed to provide it with a range of 107km on a single charge in Power mode. The company says the range will be higher in Eco mode, but hasn’t revealed an exact figure. The battery is said to take 5 hours to top up when plugged into a regular 5A socket.
On the features front, the Primus gets a digital instrument cluster and Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and notification alerts via the proprietary Ampere app. Ampere is offering the Primus in four matte colours – Himalayan White, Royal Orange, Havelock Blue and Buck Black. In terms of rivals, the Ampere Primus competes with the base variants of the TVS iQube and Ola S1.
Updated Zeal EX goes 120km on a single charge
Ampere has also launched the updated Zeal EX e-scooter at an introductory, ex-showroom price of Rs 69,900 (valid only in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand). Elsewhere in India, the Ampere Zeal EX is priced at Rs 75,000 (ex-showroom). Additionally, Ampere is offering benefits of up to Rs 6,000 on the Zeal EX till March 31, 2023.
The Zeal EX is powered by a 1.8kW motor, has a claimed top speed of 55kph and comes with multiple ride modes. It has a 2.3kWh lithium-ion battery which delivers an ARAI-certified range of 120km on a full charge and it can be topped up in 5 hours. The Ampere Zeal is available in three colours – Stone Grey, Ivory White and Indigo Blue.
Ampere Vehicles remains a consistent market performer. In CY2022, when it was fourth in the pecking order of electric two-wheeler OEMs, it recorded cumulative sales of 79,592 units and averaged monthly sales of 6,632 units.
