Gestamp Opens Gujarat Plant With Rs 523.7 Crore Investment

Gestamp has inaugurated its fifth production facility in India at Bhagapura, Gujarat, with an investment of Rs 523.7 crore across phases 1 and 2. The plant manufactures engineered body-in-white (BiW) components and adds hot-stamping, laser cutting and welding capacity to the company's Indian operations.

The facility currently employs around 240 people and has 31,790sqm of manufacturing capacity. It is equipped with two hot-stamping lines, a laser cutting line and welding cells for assembly operations.

Gestamp entered India in 2006 and began developing its own manufacturing footprint from 2010. With the Bhagapura facility, the company now has five plants in India, including three in Pune, one in Chennai and the new Gujarat plant.

The Bhagapura plant is focused on highly engineered BiW components and is equipped to manufacture products from Gestamp's Ges-Gigastamping family. The company says the facility has been designed around efficiency and flexibility, while its energy monitoring system is intended to identify and reduce inefficiencies in energy consumption. Gestamp also plans to enter into agreements to purchase electricity certified as coming from renewable sources.

The plant's capacity could be expanded if further developments are approved. The investment comes as Gestamp adopts a selective investment strategy globally, prioritising growth markets while controlling overall capital expenditure.

Gestamp expands Indian manufacturing footprint

Following the Gujarat investment, Gestamp's total manufacturing footprint in India stands at 188,000sqm, with 14 stamping production lines, including five hot-stamping lines. Two additional hot-stamping lines are currently being installed.

The company says its Indian operations generate approximately 2,300 jobs across BiW components and assemblies, chassis parts and mechanisms such as hinges and door checks. Gestamp's India revenue increased by more than 80 percent over the last five full financial years to €245 million in 2025.

The company is linking the expansion to projected growth in India's light-vehicle production. S&P Global Mobility projections cited by Gestamp put Indian light-vehicle production at 7.8 million units by 2030, 28 percent higher than 2025 levels.

Gestamp's India operations

Gestamp has been present in India for 20 years. Its current manufacturing network comprises three facilities in Pune, one in Chennai and one in Bhagapura, Gujarat.

The company manufactures BiW components and assemblies, chassis parts and mechanisms in India. Globally, Gestamp operates 115 production plants across 24 countries, with four additional plants under construction, alongside 13 R&D centres.
