Kubota Launches MU4201 Tractor in India's 41–44 HP Segment
New MU4201 and upgraded MU4501, MU5502 models target India’s 41–50 HP market, which accounts for over 60% of domestic demand.
Escorts Kubota Limited has announced the launch of its new tractor model, the Kubota MU4201, on August 25, 2025, in India. The launch marks the company's entry into the 41–44 horsepower (HP) category under the Kubota brand. Designed in Japan and manufactured for Indian conditions, the MU4201 is intended for diverse agricultural applications, including haulage, and is compatible with implements such as rotavators and disc harrows.
The MU4201 is equipped with features typically found in Kubota’s higher HP range (45–55 HP), including a flat deck, suspended pedals, balancer shaft, synchromesh transmission, and dual clutch. This strategic move aims to capture a share of the 41–50 HP tractor segment, which constitutes approximately 60–64% of India’s domestic tractor market, according to Escorts Kubota’s internal estimates.
In addition to the MU4201, the company has also introduced upgraded versions of its existing MU4501 and MU5502 models. These now feature a newly developed ‘Pompa Lift’ hydraulic system, based on Japanese lift technology, with a lifting capacity of 1640–2100 kg and a lift height of 455 mm, which the company claims is among the best in its category.
Commenting on the launch, Nikhil Nanda, Chairman & Managing Director, said, “The new product launches are in-line with our vision to establish ourselves as a formidable player in the domestic tractor market, by bringing engineering excellence, cutting-edge technology and high-quality features in our product offerings.”
Akira Kato, Deputy Managing Director, added, “The new products are targeted at the 41–50 HP segment in India, which today constitutes about 60–64% of the total domestic market. The new MU-4201 is designed for the farmer looking for premium features across diverse agricultural applications, including for haulage.”
G S Grewal, Chief Operating Officer, Tractor Business Division, emphasized the company’s regional strategy: “We plan to introduce the tractor across India, and especially strengthen our existing market position in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.”
The MU4201 and its upgraded counterparts are expected to complement Escorts Kubota’s existing offerings under the Farmtrac and Powertrac brands, reinforcing its presence in the mid-range HP segment.
