Endurance Targets September Start For Expanded ABS Capacity
The component maker is adding 12 lakh ABS units to its existing 6.4 lakh annual capacity, with the start of production expected in September 2026, as well as preparing to begin EV battery pack supplies from its facility near Pune.
Endurance Technologies Ltd plans to bring its expanded anti-lock braking system capacity on stream by September 2026, as the auto component maker prepares for rising safety adoption in India’s two-wheeler market.
The company is adding 12 lakh ABS units per annum to its existing installed capacity of 6.4 lakh units, taking total annual capacity to 18.4 lakh units.
“As you are aware, a draft guideline was issued by the government in June 2025 to extend ABS requirements to lower-engine-capacity vehicles. In line with this guideline, we had announced expansion of our ABS capacity,” Managing Director Anurang Jain said during an analyst call.
Jain said Endurance is moving ahead with the project even before final regulations are notified, as demand for safety features is expected to rise structurally.
ABS prevents wheels from locking during sudden or hard braking, helping the rider retain control, especially on wet or uneven roads. At present, ABS is mandatory for higher-capacity two-wheelers in India, while many lower-capacity models use combined braking systems. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had published draft amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, proposing that all two-wheelers manufactured on or after January 1, 2026, be fitted with ABS.
Dual-Channel ABS, Traction Control in Focus
Endurance is also preparing for higher-value braking systems. Jain said the production of dual-channel ABS for Bajaj Auto will begin in June 2026, with an annual sales potential of 1.2 lakh units. Another programme of similar volume is scheduled to start in the second quarter of FY27.
The company is also adding features such as traction control for select premium motorcycle applications, mainly in the 160cc-250cc segment, in line with evolving OEM requirements.
Endurance is also increasing localisation within its braking business. Jain said the company has started in-house production of electronic control units for single-channel ABS. Production of dual-channel ECUs will begin along with the dual-channel ABS programme in June 2026.
“This will help strengthen the value-add in the ABS braking business,” he said.
Jain said Endurance would also benefit if the industry transitions towards hydraulic combined braking systems for some categories, as that would expand the addressable market for its hydraulic braking systems, including master cylinders, callipers and brake discs.
Chennai Brake Plant
The ABS expansion is part of a wider push in braking systems. Endurance’s new Chennai site for disc brake assemblies is at an advanced stage of civil construction. The plant is being set up closer to key south-based OEM customers and is expected to lower freight costs.
The company plans to start supplies from the Chennai plant to Royal Enfield in July 2026, while supplies to other OEMs are expected from the third quarter of FY27.
The Chennai plant will have a capacity of 30 lakh disc brake assemblies and 40 lakh brake discs per annum. This will be part of Endurance’s planned total capacity of 76 lakh disc brake assemblies and 86 lakh brake discs per annum.
Endurance has also made its integrated R&D facility for brakes at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar fully operational. The facility supports two-wheeler brakes and ABS, while also strengthening in-house testing and validation capabilities for four-wheeler brake assemblies.
EV Battery Pack Supplies to Begin
Endurance is also preparing to start EV battery pack supplies from its facility near Pune, marking a deeper move into electric mobility components.
Jain said the battery pack manufacturing programme moved into the final validation phase during Q4FY26. Regulatory compliance testing at the certification agency has been completed, while improvement points identified during customer reviews have been addressed.
“Going forward, with regulatory approvals and customer validations nearing completion, we are planning to start the SOP in week four of this month,” Jain said.
The first battery pack product is for a two-wheeler EV application. However, Endurance plans to use the capability to pursue opportunities across two-wheelers, three-wheelers and other high-potential segments.
