EKA mobility partners with IKEA to provide electric delivery vans
The collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions and set new industry standards. Initial fleet of 10 vans deployed, with plans for expansion across India, aligning with IKEA's global sustainability goals, IKEA said.
EKA Mobility, an electric vehicle manufacturer, has formed a partnership with IKEA to provide electric delivery vans for IKEA's last-mile delivery fleet in India. EKA Mobility is supported by equity partners Mitsui & Co., Ltd. from Japan and VDL Groep from the Netherlands.
The partnership has begun with the delivery of 10 electric vans to IKEA, with plans for fleet expansion across multiple regions in India. The use of electric delivery vans is expected to reduce IKEA's carbon footprint in its logistics operations. EKA's electric vans feature battery technology designed for urban environments. This partnership aims to set an example for electric mobility adoption in the retail sector.
Rohit Srivastava, Chief Growth Officer of EKA Mobility, stated that the partnership with IKEA is a significant step in their mission to promote sustainable electric mobility solutions in urban logistics. He expressed commitment to ongoing collaboration with IKEA.
Saiba Suri, Country Customer Fulfilment Manager at IKEA India, explained that IKEA's approach to sustainable logistics involves building efficient infrastructure, developing skills, and creating opportunities throughout the value chain. Suri mentioned IKEA's focus on entering new markets with an EV-first approach and investing in long-term, innovative solutions.
