EKA Mobility has expanded its electric commercial vehicle portfolio with the launch of the EKA 9M Electric School Bus at the Prawaas 5.0 bus and passenger mobility exhibition in Gandhinagar. Developed for school transportation, the new model is built on the company's lightweight monocoque platform and is designed to accommodate up to 43 passengers along with the driver.
The 9-metre electric bus features a high-strength steel structure and complies with AIS 052 safety standards. It is equipped with an Electronic Braking System (EBS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and air suspension, with the company positioning the model for school transport applications.
The bus is offered with 100 kWh and 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack options. EKA Mobility claims a driving range of up to 180 km on a single charge and says the vehicle supports CCS2 fast charging, enabling a full recharge in under one hour and 45 minutes.
The launch marks the company's entry into the electric school bus segment as it broadens its range of electric passenger mobility products. Alongside the new school bus, EKA Mobility is showcasing its EKA Coach, EKA 12M Low Entry Electric Bus, EKA 3S and EKA 6S models at the exhibition.
Commenting on the launch, Dr Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman, EKA Mobility, said, "The launch of our EKA 9M Electric School Bus reflects EKA Mobility's commitment to developing purpose-built electric mobility solutions that address the evolving needs of India's transportation ecosystem.
