Claims of BE 6 stoppage due to sensor failure incorrect, says Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. dismissed claims made in a video circulating on social media sites, and news reports, that a Mahindra BE 6 recently stalled due to sensor failure after a minor accident in Hyderabad.

“We categorically state that these claims are baseless and incorrect. The vehicle's stoppage was not related to any sensor failure as being claimed in the video. Following the collision, the car was immediately moved to the side of the road, clearly demonstrating its functionality. Given that there was a collision, the vehicle was appropriately transported to the dealership for inspection,” the automaker said in a post on social media platform, X.

A video showing the aftermath of an accident involving Mahindra’s BE 6 and the Datsun hatchback has gone viral. It claimed that the electric vehicle was unable to move after a sensor failure due to a read-end collision.

Mahindra launched its born electric vehicle, BE 6 and XEV 9e in November. The BE 6 is currently sold at a starting price of Rs 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom), and XEV 9e is priced from Rs 21.90 lakh. Both the vehicles come with two battery pack options: a 59 kWh and a 79 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. The BE 6 and XEV 9e come loaded with the latest technology.

Mahindra has invested Rs 4,500 crore to develop and manufacture these models, out of the total Rs 16,000 crore investment planned for the FY22-FY27 cycle. This includes powertrain development, software and tech development, and manufacturing capacity expansion. The company is also establishing a 90,000-unit annual production facility at their automotive division in Chakan, scheduled for completion by March 2025.
