Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility gift electric double-decker bus to Tamil Nadu Tourism Department, connecting iconic landmarks as Chief Minister Stalin inaugurates sustainable urban mobility initiative.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated Chennai's new double-decker tourism bus service on Sunday, marking a significant addition to the city's heritage tourism infrastructure.
The bus, gifted to the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department by Ashok Leyland, Switch Mobility, and Tamil NRIs based in the United States, will connect the city's prominent landmarks and heritage sites. Ashok Leyland, the commercial vehicle manufacturing flagship of the Hinduja Group, collaborated on the initiative to enhance tourist accessibility across Chennai.
The service is designed to provide both residents and tourists with an immersive experience of Chennai's cultural and architectural heritage. The double-decker format offers elevated viewing perspectives of the city's historic sites while traveling between destinations.
The initiative represents a convergence of heritage preservation and modern mobility solutions. By introducing the double-decker bus service, authorities aim to promote sustainable urban transportation while showcasing Chennai's rich historical landscape.
Ashok Leyland emphasized that the project reflects its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions and its ongoing partnership with Tamil Nadu in advancing innovation in public and tourist transportation sectors.
The new tourism bus service is expected to become a popular option for exploring Chennai's diverse architectural and cultural attractions, from colonial-era buildings to ancient temples and coastal landmarks.
