Bharat Seats reports fire incident at Maruti Udyog JV Complex plant in Gurugram

Bharat Seats Ltd reported a fire incident at its plant in the Maruti Udyog Joint Venture complex in Gurugram this morning.

“This is to inform you that on May 31, 2024, at around 10:30 a.m., fire occurred at Bharat Seats Limited plant at Plot No. 1, Maruti Udyog Joint Venture Complex, Gurgaon,” the company said in an exchange filing.

The auto component maker noted that there were no human casualties in the fire incident. Production temporarily disrupted for a short period was restored after the fire was controlled.

Bharat Seats is a joint venture between Suzuki Motor Corp, Maruti Suzuki India, and Rohit Relan and Associates, manufacturing seating systems and interior components for automotive and surface transport. It has five manufacturing facilities – three in Haryana and two in Gujarat.

Bharat Seats said it is in the process of ascertaining the cause of the fire and the actual loss caused by it. “There is adequate insurance coverage for the said plant and intimation to the insurance company has already been made,” the company said.

Earlier in the day, people were under the assumption that the fire broke out in the Maruti Suzuki factory, as videos shared on social media reportedly had a hoarding with Maruti Suzuki's name on it. However, a Maruti Suzuki spokesperson later clarified that there was no fire incident at its plant.

“The fire incident is not in the Maruti Suzuki plant but in a neighbouring factory. Of course, our fire tenders were deployed immediately and the fire is extinguished now,” Maruti Suzuki’s Executive Director for Corporate Affairs, Rahul Bharti said.
