Ashok Leyland Wins ₹222.65 Crore Arbitral Award Against Delhi Transport Corporation
Arbitral Tribunal in New Delhi ruled in favour of Ashok Leyland's claim over bus supply contracts from 2009-2011, rejecting DTC's entire counterclaim.
Ashok Leyland Limited has informed stock exchanges that an Arbitral Tribunal in New Delhi has passed an award in its favour in a long-running dispute with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) over bus supply contracts.
The dispute traces back to buses supplied by Ashok Leyland to DTC between 2009 and 2011 under a tender floated by the state-run transport body. The company had raised claims arising from those contracts and initiated arbitration proceedings against DTC in 2013.
According to the exchange filing, Ashok Leyland had originally claimed ₹445 crore, while DTC had filed a counterclaim of ₹136 crore. In its majority award dated July 6, 2026, the Arbitral Tribunal allowed part of Ashok Leyland's claim, awarding the company ₹222.65 crore along with 10% annual interest for the pre-arbitration period, the pendente lite period, and from the date of the award until payment. The tribunal also awarded legal costs of ₹2.96 crore to the company. DTC's counterclaim was rejected in its entirety.
Ashok Leyland said it is reviewing the award, working out the final amount payable inclusive of interest, and evaluating options regarding the portion of its original claim that was not awarded. The company said the expected financial implications of the award are still being ascertained.
The company clarified that the matter does not pertain to litigation against its key management personnel or promoters, and that no settlement of the proceedings has taken place.
