Bangalore, July 1, 2013: Swedish commercial vehicle major Volvo has replaced the FM 400 tipper with its new FMX 440 heavy-duty tipper for the mining segment in India.
Talking to Autocar Professional, A K Birla, executive vice-president (Sales, Marketing & Aftermarket), VE Commercial Vehicles, said the company has now phased out FM 400 tippers, which were sold for mining purposes and replaced by the FMX 440 tippers. The FMX 440 has higher torque and horsepower when compared to the FM 400, he said.
Commercial sales of the FMX 440 began four months ago and, thus far, have sold around 100 units. Fitted with the Euro III, D13A440 13-litre 6-cylinder, inline diesel engine, the FMX 440 develops 440bhp and 2200 Nm torque.
The company claims to be the market leader in the 400hp and above heavy-duty truck segment. The market size of this segment in India is estimated at around 1,000 vehicles per annum, of which the company has around 60-70 percent of share, added Birla.
