Volkswagen prepares for ‘electrifying’ impact at IAA in Frankfurt

Wolfsburg, August 23, 2013: The Volkswagen brand will be present at the 65th International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt am Main from September 12-22 with almost 9,000 square metres of exhibition space in Hall 3.0.

The brand highlights are the world premiere of the e-Golf and the new Golf R, plus one further model. Apart from ‘Think Blue.’, the main themes at the stand are 4MOTION (four-wheel drive) and the WRC (World Rally Championship).

The predominant theme of the entire exhibition is ‘Electrifying’, which refers not only to e-mobility as represented in Frankfurt by products such as the e-Golf, e-up! and XL1 along with numerous exhibits and screen shows. The stand architecture, films, show elements and giveaways also take up the ‘electrifying’ theme and are designed to create an emotional impact on visitors – apart from e-mobility, this includes the link between car, man and technology, connectivity or Volkswagen’s approach to other forward-looking drivetrain technologies over and above e-mobility.

The architectural centerpiece of the stand, once again in ‘cloud design’, is the main stage with a 61-square metre LED wall. This wall marks the entrance to the Think Blue. walk which takes visitors past Volkswagen models that are particularly economical thanks to their efficient powertrains or alternative drivetrain technologies. An ‘Innovation Wall’ provides visitors with interesting information on sustainability, technologies and innovations.

In addition to DJ sessions in an exclusively designed lounge area, Volkswagen has a special show highlight: the Dutch innovation design artist Anouk Wipprecht was commissioned by the brand to create a fashion tech collection exclusively for the motor show which is quite unique, not only in terms of its design, but especially because of its ability for technical interaction with visitors and the surroundings.

In total, 150 tonnes of steel were used to construct the exhibition stand. VW’s stand construction has taken over 24 days, a planning period of 11 months, and over 2,300 lamps requiring some 90 kilometres of cables.
