TVS Logistics Services acquires US company

Chennai, May 30, 2013: TVS Logistics Services has announced the acquisition of the Michigan-based Wainwright Industries. The acquisition is expected to help the company add unique service capabilities such as ‘cross docking’ and sub-assembly for manufacturers, which would enable TVS Logistics to move up the value chain system. Cross-docking is a document control and traceability system through which materials are efficiently managed and supplied for just-in-time production.

Founded in 1947, Wainwright Industries has grown from a small punch press to a multi-divisional company serving a variety of technologically advanced customers. It began with supply of components to the automotive and aerospace sectors, and offers third party logistics services across production line sequencing, kitting, quality containment (sorting, rework, and engineering change modifications), rack repair and vendor inventory management.

This is the second acquisition by TVS Logistics in the US after it acquired Manufacturers Equipment and Supply Company (MESCO) in 2011. In line with TVS Logistics’ business strategy, it will retain the existing management and David Robbins will continue to manage the business in the US. Announcing the acquisition, R Dinesh, managing director, TVS Logistics Services, said: “With the acquisition of Wainwright, we have covered all the capabilities required to provide the end-to-end production supply chain solutions. With this, we can go to the customer to offer a complete outsourcing model.”

S Ravichandran, executive director, TVS Logistics Services, added: “Wainwright’s service offerings are additive to TVS Logistics and would help in creating higher values to customers. Cross-docking and sub-assembly are key value additions of this acquisition and we believe these future services need to be implemented in India.”

David Robbins, president, Wainwright Industries, commented: “Both the companies share a lot of common values and synergies in our respective businesses. This deal also gives Wainwright the tremendous potential of expanding its offering across USA.”

Wainwright’s key strength is to provide seamless integration with the manufacturing process through its cross-docking capability.

Similarly, Wainwright also provides high-value creation jobs like sub-assembling of key components for its clients. Earlier, in 2011, TVS Logistics had also set up the sub-assembly facility for Ashok Leyland at Sholavaram, near Chennai, to sub-assemble Genset engine power packs.
