TKM launches tech training

TOYOTA KIRLOSKAR MOTOR (TKM), in conjunction with Toyota Motor Corporation and its nationwide dealer network, has introduced its training initiative — the Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP) — at the Fr Agnel Technical Institute, Mumbai. T-TEP in India is a special training module launched in 2006. So far, 14 institutions in various Indian cities have been covered under the programme in a span of three years. In the first batch as many as 20 students will undergo the T-TEP training, at the Fr Agnel Technical Institute. T-TEP aims to support the ITIs to develop highly skilled young talented technicians for the automotive service industry. Technical manpower currently available in the Indian automotive service industry is characterised by low skill levels and is not trained for repair and diagnostics of the latest models of vehicles available in the market. T-TEP hopes to bridge these gaps by partnering with ITIs and jointly working with its dealers. According to Sekhar Vishwanathan, DMD, commercial division, TKM, “This partnership will enable us to create skilled technicians. We wish to expose the students to latest service techniques used in the automotive industry, which will go a long way in creating industry-ready manpower.”
