Five months after it launched the new Safari premium SUV, Tata Motors today rolled out the 10,000th unit from its manufacturing facility in Pune. The last 9,900 units have been produced in less than four months, despite the many pandemic-induced restrictions. Till end-June 2021, a total of 8,964 units had been produced.
Since launch, the company has sold a total of 8,635 units till end-June 2021 in the domestic market. This constitutes a monthly sales average of 1,727 units. By end-July 2021, the Safari would have notched sales of over 10,000 units.
The new Safari may not live up to the mechanicals of the original Safari but there’s plenty to like – from the strong 2-litre diesel engine which develops 170hp and 350 Nm of torque and smooth auto ‘box to the ample space and features on offer. Comfort in the third row is more than adequate. All in all, it’s a compelling three-row SUV for the family.
According to Tata Motors, the new Safari is one of the top-selling 6/7-seater SUV with a current market share of 25.2% in its category. Furthermore, together with its stablemate (Safari + Harrier), Tata Motors currently commands a 41.2% in the high SUV segment (as of Q1 FY22).
