After springing a surprise by resurrecting the iconic ‘Safari’ nameplate for its latest midsized SUV, Tata Motors has today introduced the Tata Safari in India at prices starting at Rs 14.69 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.

The company is offering the latest generation of the SUV in a total of six variants, including options of manual and automatic transmission as well as six / seven-seat configurations.

The prices range from Rs 14.69 lakh for the entry-level XE variant to Rs 20.20 lakh for the top-end XZ+ (Adventure Persona edition) in the manual trims, while are pegged between Rs 17.25 lakh and Rs 21.45 lakh for the automatic versions of the full-blown SUV.

The Adventure persona will be available in a distinct Tropical Mist colour, which Tata Motors says is inspired by the rich and diverse flora present across the vibrant landscapes of our country. The standard colour options include Daytona Grey, Tropical Mist and Orcus White along with the signature Royal Blue.

The new Tata Safari is based on Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 (Omega Arc) platform which also underpins its sibling – Tata Harrier. The SUV comes powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that develops 167bhp and 350Nm of torque. The powertrain comes mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed Hyundai-sourced torque convertor automatic transmission.

In terms of gizmos, the new Tata Safari offers a digital instrument cluster, 9-speaker Harman sound system paired with an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also offers a panoramic sunroof as well split projector headlamps and LED DRLs upfront. The body-on-frame SUV rides on 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The new Tata Safari comes equipped with six airbags, ABS and EBD, hill-start-assist, and corner-stability control among other active safety features on-board.

According to Guenter Butschek, MD and CEO, Tata Motors, “The Safari as our new flagship is connecting the aspirations of the discerning and evolved SUV customers. It tops the ‘New Forever’ range of cars and SUVs launched in 2020 and marks another milestone in Tata Motors’ strategic transformation. The new Safari is an impressive endorsement of our stated intend of enhancing presence in the faster growing market segments. Its exceptional build quality and premium finish, power and performance augment the brand’s iconic legacy and amplify the key traits of the ‘New Forever’ range - safety, style, drivability and best-in-class features. We will make the Safari rule the Indian roads once again.”

As per Shailesh Chandra, President – Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, “Safari had introduced India to the SUV lifestyle and in its contemporary avatar, the new Safari is in-sync with the multifaceted lifestyles of today’s SUV customer. With its plush interiors, state-of-the-art connectivity and premium features, the Safari not just blends in but ups the lifestyle quotient several notches higher.
