Tata BlueScope unveils new plant

Tata Bluescope Steel recently inaugurated its third facility at Sriperumbudur near Chennai to manufacture light steel structures and offer its roof and wall cladding solutions under the brand ‘Lysaght’.

The joint venture company of Tata Steel and Bluescope Steel has two other plants in Pune and Bhiwadi. It offers complete solutions to construct buildings using prefabricated structures.The company has spent Rs 350 crore to create three plants. It will be setting up a coated steel plant in Jamshedpur at a cost of Rs 880 crore which will be operational in 2009. This facility will have an annual metallic coating capacity of 250,000 tonnes and paint line capacity of 150,000 tonnes.

Director of Tata Bluescope, HM Nerurkar said setting up a manufacturing facility in Chennai made perfect sense especially with the kind of engineering talent available there. President of Asian Business Markets, BlueScope Steel and chairperson, Tata BlueScope Steel, Kathryn Fagg said, “We are happy to inaugurate the Chennai facility when South India is experiencing a construction boom. The unit will offer light steel solutions to our customers.”

Managing director of Tata BlueScope, Chetan Tolia said, “With this plant, we will further strengthen our offerings in southern India. This facility is geared to create infrastructural capabilities for automotive showrooms, community centres, schools, indoor sports complex, residential units, railway stations and bus shelters”.

BlueScope is based in Australia and some of its global projects include Selatan and Titiwangsa railway stations in Kuala Lumpur, Olympic Park railway station in Sydney and Qantas domestic terminal in Mascot Airport, Sydney.
