Strike underway at Mahindra & Mahindra’s Nashik plant

March 7, 2013: In a release issued by Mahindra & Mahindra late last evening, a worker tool down strike by employees of its Nashik plant which started on March 5 at 6pm is currently continuing. It is understood that around 3,000 workers are protesting against the suspension of a worker who allegedly stopped production for a few hours on March 3.

The Nashik plant, which produces the Scorpio, Xylo, Quanto, Bolero SUVs and the Verito saloon, has a production capacity of 200,000 units per annum. The company says the strike till now has resulted in a production loss of around 500 vehicles till date which currently will have no immediate impact on sales as it has three weeks’ stock in the pipeline.

Mahindra & Mahindra says it will keep its dialogue ongoing with the union representatives for stoppage of the current tool down and a planned strike so as to reach a mutual agreement.
