SsangYong Motor sells 10,436 units in September

October 4, 2013: The Mahindra Group-owned SsangYong Motor has announced has announced that it has sold a total of 10,436 units in September 2013 – 4,432 units in domestic sales and 6,004 in exports. These numbers mark a growth of 2.8 percent over sales a year ago; cumulative sales have risen by 21.4 percent compared to the same period in 2012.

The Korean carmaker says the increased sales have been driven by higher demand for the Korando family brand including the New Korando C despite reduced working days at the plant as a result of the Chuseok holidays, which are counted as the biggest and most important holidays in Korea.

As a result of steady demand, domestic sales have increased by 9.8 percent year-on-year and cumulative sales by 32.3 percent compared to the same period last year. The New Korando C SUV, since its launch in August 2013, has received over 7,000 bookings with demand exceeding supply. Now, the company is focusing its efforts on increasing production volume after the Chuseok holidays are over.

On the export front, SsangYong’s cumulative exports grew by 14.3 percent compared to the same period last year thanks to increased sales in the Russian market.

The company expects its exports will get a fillip with the launch of the New Korando C in overseas markets. The first overseas launch event was held in China on September 27 followed by Europe in October.
