Skoda India surpasses CY2012’s record sales in first 8 months of CY2022

Skoda Auto India has reported wholesales of 4,222 cars in August 2022, a 10% rise over the 3,829 cars it sold in August 2021 but down 5% month-on-month on July 2022’s 4,447 units. For the first five months of FY2023, cumulative wholesales are 24,448 units, which is a strong 162% YoY increase (April-August 2021: 9,320 units).

This strong market performance makes also makes India the Czech brand’s third largest market globally, after Germany and the Czech Republic.

This growth is thanks to the strong demand for the India 2.0 models, the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan, launched in July 2021 and March 2022 respectively. Meanwhile, the Octavia and Superb sedans and the Kodiaq SUV continue to have their following. Skoda India had recorded its highest-ever monthly sales of 6,023 units in June 2022.

Seen from the calendar-year perspective, the company has clocked cumulative sales of 37,568 units in the first eight months of CY2022 – up 8.33% on the previous annual best of 34,678 units in CY2012. Given the monthly sales average of 4,696 units, Skoda Auto India should easily cross the 55,000-units mark in CY2012 and could even drive towards 60,000 sales.

Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, “This is a landmark moment for Skoda Auto in India, and in the world. The credit to this achievement goes to our teams, our partners, and most importantly to our customers and our fans. It is their trust in our brand that has made this feat possible.”

On the retail front, Skoda India is fast expanding its network and from 175 touchpoints across the country in December 2021, it now has over 205 touchpoints, with a target of 250 by the end of 2022.
