Sew-Eurodrive opens green plant

Sew-Eurodrive India has opened a new assembly plant at Sriperambadur at a cost of Rs 33 crore. This is said to be the first ‘green plant’ in the Indian drive industry. The wholly-owned subsidiary of Euro German SEW-Eurodrive GmbH and Co posted a turnover of Rs 107 crore for the year ended 2007-08.

It started its Indian operations in 1997 with a sales office in Delhi and later set up its first assembly plant in Vadodra. In the past three years, the company has invested Rs 55 crore on expansion and other growth initiatives.

According to M J Abraham, chief executive officer, SEW-Eurodrive India, “Reliability, productivity and energy efficiency are going to be increasingly important themes for Indian industry and we foresee growing demand for the solutions we deliver on these themes. Our strong growth over the past few years left us short on capacity and we have responded by doubling at our existing location in Vadodara as well as setting up this new assembly plant in Chennai.”

Abraham added, “A plant each in our key Western and Southern markets with full service capability for our geared motor, frequency inverter and industrial gearbox product lines, allied with our direct sales and service network covering 16 cities gives us the capability to address our customer needs locally and effectively”.

For Sew-Eurodrive, the key driver has been the construction industry, followed by automobile, steel, food and beverage. The product portfolio includes gear motors, gearboxes, servo technology and electronic- controlled devices.
