Setco to make BS VI-compliant clutches for M&HCVs from January 2020

Setco Automotive, one of the largest clutch manufacturers in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) segment in India, today announced that it has received approval to supply Bharat Stage VI-compliant clutches to all M&HCV manufacturers in the country. The company, which has not specified the M&HCV manufacturers, says with its largest design and validation facility for clutches in India, it is ready to begin commercial supplies from January 2020.

The company says it is poised to strengthen its competitive positioning in the BS VI era, which is a crucial part of its multi-pronged growth strategy . The strategy follows an early involvement policy with its key customers, which will ensure working closely together with OEMs and exchanging data on a real-time basis, thereby implementing changes required on a fortnightly basis to meet the project timelines.

According to Jatinder S Gujral, CEO, Setco, “We are excited to be one of the first in the M&HCV space to receive BS VI approval, which has been achieved with intense design and development focus and by leveraging in-house capabilities. This significant step would further reinforce our product offering. We aim to expand our portfolio by developing the new generation dual and double clutches for farm tractors. These products have undergone rigorous field testing in different farm applications and have completed the approval cycles with key farm tractor manufacturers.  Starting 2019-20, we envisage progressive growth in the segment.”

The company says with BS VI norms coming into effect from April 1, 2020, its new products are customised engineering solutions for an engine-and-gearbox combination and solve specific engineering issues on NVH (noise vibration & harshness) for customers. This NVH package coupled with upsizing of clutches for BS VI would increase the content per vehicle by 5-8 percent.
