Renault, Nissan to consolidate India platform strategy

The Renault-Nissan Alliance has identified two relatively low-cost platforms to exploit fully in India. While the CMF-A (Kwid and Redigo) and CMF-A+ platforms will underpin Renault and Nissan’s future small and mid-size car range in India, the M0 (Duster) platform will cater to the larger products. This platform currently underpins a range of cars such as the Lodgy, the Duster and the Terrano. The upcoming Nissan Kicks crossover for our market will also share the same architecture.

The alliance’s European-spec CMF-B platform was also initially evaluated for India, but it was rejected as it proved to be a lot more expensive than the M0. In fact, lessons learnt on M0 were passed on to CMF-A, which was specifically developed for markets like India.

Datsun, however, will continue using the low-cost V minus platform for its products, the Go Cross crossover will be the brand’s next offering based on this architecture.
