Noida-based One Electric has announced that deliveries of its electric motorcycle, KRIDN, have commenced in Hyderabad and Bangalore through its distribution partners.

The EV maker claims the KRIDN has a range of 110km in eco mode and 100km in normal mode, and  a top speed of 95kph. The company also says the KRID goes from zero to 60kph in eight seconds (see Tech Specs panel below)

Gaurav Uppal, CEO, One Electric said, “Hyderabad and Bengaluru have shown very high interest in pre- bookings, therefore we have started from these cities. Dealer feedback from test rides shows that the customers are surprised at the excellent performance in speed and power coming from an electric motorcycle. Customers are also happy about riding a powerful motorcycle without gears. The only part which requires explanation is how the total cost of ownership is actually lower than petrol vehicles. Therefore, finance at low interest rates, will definitely play an important role in EV adoption.”

One Electric will commence deliveries in Tamil Nadu and Kerala next month in January 2021, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi NCR thereafter.

“Since ours is an 80 percent-plys localised motorcycle, the farmers protest in NCR along with skyrocketing raw material prices are posing a challenge to the smooth rollout. However, we had also not truly anticipated the challenges of supply chain management of a vehicle. Most of the bottlenecks have now been addressed and we expect a smoother scaling up of operations in the coming year,” added Gaurav.

Maximising localisation
One Electric claims to have designed its product right from heavy duty chassis, tank, and battery cover amongst others and is copyright protected. The company says most of the KRIDN’s components have been sourced from Indian suppliers like Munjal Showa has been mandated with supply of suspension, tyres from CEAT and lighting from FIEM Industries, amongst others. Except for battery cells and controller motors which are of Chinese origin, rest all is indigenously built.

Speaking to Autocar Professional earlier this year, Abhijeet Shah, COO, said the entire process beginning from designing, prototyping, testing and manufacturing of the vehicle has provided the company with the capability to adapt quickly to the constant evolution in the field. “Looking forward, we are able to adapt any battery cell type or motor technology which is evolving at a fast pace without worrying about the fitment issues. We believe this is going to enable us in creating cutting edge technology and realize our vision of being a global player for electric motorcycles” said Shah.

One Electric says it has also received interest from many international clients for the KRIDN. The company is in talks with various potential partners for South America, Africa and Middle East markets. “Receiving interest from the international market has been a great validation of our product’s design and specifications. We are in advanced stages of talks to enter the Africa market. Taxi segment called Boda Boda in East Africa is of special interest to us and we hope to start trials shortly in coming 3-4 months. However deliveries in the export markets will start only after our target rollout for India has been achieved and streamlined.”
