Nissan gears up to roll out 10,000 Datsun Gos a month

September 16, 2013: The Go, the car that will mark the return of the Datsun brand in the market, attracted significant interest when it was unveiled in July.

Now, Nissan has set itself some serious targets when it launches the car by the end of February 2014. According to a source, Nissan plans to produce 115,000 units of the Go in the very first year of production in the Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai. The car’s trial production is expected in January. To an emailed query from Autocar Professional, a Nissan spokesperson replied, “We have not officially confirmed any such information.”

The Go will be the entry-level model for buyers of the Nissan family. To be priced below Rs 400,000, the Go will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Hyundai Santro. The Alto (800cc and 1-litre variants) sells around 17,000 units a month, down from an average of 25,000 units a year ago, while the Santro’s monthly sales average is 3,500 units.

The Go is also slated to debut in Indonesia in 2015.
