Mercedes-Benz ups the ante in India with new E-class launch

New Delhi, June 25, 2013: Close on the heels of the A-class launch, Mercedes-Benz India has upped the ante by launching the face-lifted E-class. The new E-class (codename W212) gets a refreshed design with this midlife update. The headlamps are now encased in a single flowing lens with LED elements for the low beam and daytime running lamps. There’s also a more aggressive grille that flows into a re-profiled bonnet and a new front bumper devoid of fog lamps. The cabin gets a new sportier steering wheel, the air-con vents have been redesigned and the controls beneath the audio system's head unit are new as well. The dials are new, the COMAND system gets a new screen and the carmaker is bringing in a sat-nav and a DVD player as well.

The E-class for India has two engine options: a 184bhp 2.0-litre direct injection petrol and a 204bhp, 2.1-litre diesel. Both engines are four-cylinder units mated to Merc's 7G-tronic automatic transmission. The car features Intelligence Assistance Systems comprising Eco Start Stop, Intelligent Lighting System, Active Park Assist, Reversing camera, Attention Assist, COMAND online, Tyre pressure loss warning system, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive Brake Light with HOLD function.

Launching the car, Eberhard Kern, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said: “The new E-class with its blend of stunning new design idiom, pioneering Intelligence Assistance Systems, exemplary safety and comfort features, luxurious appointments and best in class modern range of infotainment systems, creates a whole new benchmark in the luxury full-size segment.
