India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India’s (MSIL’s) sales for the month of July registered a notable 6.81 percent year-on-year (YoY) uptick to reach a total of 142,850 units (July 2021: 133,732). These numbers include the company’s export numbers.

Maruti said that the chip crisis continues to have a minor impact on its production, primarily on the domestic models. MSIL’s order backlog in the third week of July stood at 340,000 units.

Its entry-level duo of the Alto and S-Presso went home to 20,333 buyers (19,685 / +3.29%), while the compact range of cars, including the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and Wagon R, registered a significant 21 percent YoY growth to go home to 84,818 customers (70,268).

With production of the new Brezza compact SUV being in ramp-up mode since the model was launched on June 30, the company’s utility vehicle (UV) sales registered a notable 28 percent decline to only sell 23,272 units (32,272). However, MSIL unveiled its all-new Grand Vitara midsize SUV on July 20, with the SUV slated to be launched in September, and rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The premium sedan – Ciaz – which retails from the Nexa showroom network, too registered a 5 percent YoY decline, with overall sales of 1,379 units (1,450). On the other hand, sales of the Eeco van that sees both commercial and personal applications, grew 30 percent to 13,048 units (10,057).
