MANN+HUMMEL expands Marklkofen plant

May 10, 2012: The MANN+HUMMEL Group, a development partner and OE supplier to the international automotive industry, is setting up a new quality and development centre to strengthen product development activities at its Marklkofen plant, which is the largest filter-producing unit in the world.

The company is to invest 3.5 million euros in buildings and a million euros in testing equipment. The core of the investment will be a laboratory with measurement facilities in a cleanroom environment. This will enable the group to carry out more comprehensive on site tests on filter elements produced in Marklkofen for the automotive industry and mechanical enginnering industries. Component cleanliness is especially gaining in importance in the automotive field and includes particles which are smaller than 200 µm (1 µm = 1 thousandth of a millimetre) and not visible to the naked eye.

Construction work at Marklkofen for the new quality and development centre is planned to begin in July 2012. The new laboratory facilities will be able to test the first filter elements in the second quarter of 2013.

In Marklkofen, MANN+HUMMEL employs a core workforce of more than 2,500. Every day the plant produces more than 600,000 oil filters, fuel filters, air filters and cabin filters for the automotive industry and aftermarket.
