June 11, 2012: Mahindra & Mahindra has received over 7,200 bookings for the XUV500 from customers within just two days of re-opening bookings on June 8. The XUV500 is now available at more than 100 dealerships across India. Launched in September 2011, the XUV has sold over 20,000 units so far. Mahindra has ramped up output at its Chakan plant and hopes to make 4,000 units this month.
Meanwhile, M&M has begun “conceiving” a refreshed version of the XUV500 since it typically takes two years for such an exercise to fructify. M&M will tap the talent it has at the Mahindra Research Valley R&D facility near Chennai. Pravin Shah, chief executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “This overwhelming response in today’s challenging market environment is a testimony to the popularity of the XUV500.”
