The Indo-Italian Chamber Of Commerce and Industry has given Magneti Marelli Powertrain its Impresa Award 2010 for Environment. The awards recognise enterprises which strengthen trade and commerce between India and Italy.

The Italian manufacturer gets the award for adopting innovative solutions to use renewable energy with technologies drawn from India and Italy, to protect the environment and its strong commitment to environment, health and safety.

Magneti Marelli Powertrain’s plant in India uses solar cooling, solar lighting, photovoltaic night light, eolic air extractors and a Building Management System that allows it to effectively save energy. With a system for rain water harvesting, use of special glass windows to reduce the need for air conditioning and a programme for waste management, the company shows its commitment towards safeguarding the environment while doing business.

The award was received by Rino Rocchelli, managing director, Magneti Marelli Powertrain (pictured above), at a function held in Mumbai on March 10.
