Magneti Marelli opens new exhaust systems plant in Manesar

October 30, 2012: Italian component major Magneti Marelli has inaugurated a new industrial plant dedicated to the production of automobile exhaust systems. The new production site, built by SKH Magneti Marelli Exhaust Systems, a joint venture between Magneti Marelli and SKH Metals (part of the Krishna Group) which was signed in 2008, is located at the Maruti Suzuki Supplier Park in Manesar, near Gurgaon.

Magneti Marelli Exhaust develops and produces exhaust systems for motor vehicles using high-quality, high-performance technologies. Its product range includes systems for exhaust gas after-treatment (catalytic converters, particulate filter converters, SCR and NSC systems) and for engine noise attenuation.

The plant covers a total surface of 8,000 square metres, 4,500 of which are covered and dedicated to the production areas for the manufacturing of Hot End components (catalytic converters) and Cold End components (mufflers). At full stretch, the plant will have a production capacity of 400,000 Cold End components and 150,000 Hot End systems a year, and will employ about 100 workers.

The new plant replaces an existing unit set up in 2009, and meets expansion and modernisation requirements, allowing the product portfolio to be expanded to include cold end systems and ensuring more room for production activities.

For Magneti Marelli, the new plant in Manesar and the other production facility in Pune, which supplies Indian customers located in India’s northern and western region, represent an important and strategic presence on the Indian market in the specific sector of exhaust systems, especially in view of the issues pertaining to the reduction of emissions and of future regulatory scenarios.

With the inauguration of this new plant in the New Delhi area, Magneti Marelli has further strengthened its presence in India. Since 2007, the company set up eight production plants in the areas of powertrain, lighting, exhaust systems, suspensions, shock absorbers, electronic systems, infotainment and navigation.

“Magneti Marelli in India is, by now, a consolidated and growing presence that contributes to the evolution of the automotive sector in a lively market with a positive outlook in the medium and long-term,” said Eugenio Razelli, CEO of Magneti Marelli (pictured). “In the specific area of exhaust systems, we have built a footprint that ensures us a strategic positioning on the market, in a critical technological area in view of the new scenarios tied to the reduction of polluting emissions, as well as the presence in two geographic areas which are crucial for the automotive sector in India”.

Magneti Marelli, which designs and produces advanced systems and components for the automotive industry, has 83 production units, 12 R&D centres and 26 application centres in 18 countries, over 34,000 employees. The company, which is part of Fiat SpA, recorded a turnover of 5.9 billion euros (Rs 41,241 crore) in 2011. The Group supplies to all leading carmakers in Europe, North and South America and the Far East. Its business areas include electronic systems, lighting; powertrain, suspension systems and shock absorbers, exhaust systems, aftermarket parts and services, plastic components and modules, and motorsport.
