Kia India, which celebrates two years of its India operations, has notched a new milestone. Its first model, the Seltos SUV, launched on August 22, 2019, has crossed the 200,000-units sales milestone in the domestic market. On August 5, the Korean carmaker had recorded its 300,000th sale in India, news which Autocar Professional had broken three days before.

From launch in August 2019 through to end-July 2021, the Seltos has sold a total of 198,784 units. The remaining 1,216 units to the 200,000 sales milestone would have come up in the first five-odd days of August, given that the Seltos is averaging sales of 250 units each day.

Contributing over 66% of Kia India’s total sales till now, the Seltos has been a trendsetter model, having disrupted the midsize-SUV segment and also fuelling the segment's growth. While 58% of Seltos sales come from its top variants, the automatic options of the vehicle contribute to more than 35%. Also, Seltos customers have shown affinity towards the diesel powertrain, which adds a healthy 45% to the overall matrix. The newly launched iMT variant of the Seltos has also seen a lot of traction in less than four months of its launch.

Meanwhile, Kia has announced that it has sold over 150,000 connected cars in India, with the Seltos contributing over 78% and the Sonet over 19% of total connected Kia sales. The Seltos HTX 1.5 Petrol variant is the top choice for consumers on this connected vehicle front.

Commenting on the milestones,  Tae-Jin Park, Executive Director and Chief Sales & Business Strategy Officer, Kia India said, “These back-to-back milestones are a testament to our commitment to bringing a revolution in the auto industry and catering to the new age, young-at-heart dynamic buyers with class-leading premium products. The Indian PV market is undergoing a transformation due to changing customer trends, increased desire for the latest features, and cutting-edge connected-car technology. We have made a conscious decision to launch game-changing products in popular segments introducing customers to a whole new experience of owning a Kia.”
