Jaguar Land Rover India has announced a 157 percent growth in sales in the fiscal year 2011-12. It sold 2,288 cars, compared to 891 cars in FY 2010-11 and 226 cars in FY 2009-10. During 2011-12, the company increased their product offering with the launch of the globally acclaimed Range Rover Evoque, the Jaguar 2012 model year range (incorporating the XJ, XF and XK) and the fastest and most powerful production sports car Jaguar has ever built, the XKR-S.
In May 2011, the first India-assembled Land Rover Freelander 2 was launched from the Pune assembly plant (pictured). The India-assembled Freelander 2 has been very well received with sales increasing at a rate of over 400 percent compared with FY 2010-11. The company’s dealership network has expanded to 15 operational outlets in 13 Indian cities with plans to increase further this year.
According to Rohit Suri, head, Premier Car Division, Jaguar Land Rover India: “This growth has been achieved by introducing new products, increasing our reach through dealership expansion and enhancing customer sales and aftersales experience. Since the start of our Indian operations in mid-2009, awareness of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands has increased significantly. We will continue to introduce more new and exciting products to advance our strategy and increase our share of the Indian luxury car market."
The Jaguar product range in India includes the XJ, XF, XFR, XKR and the XKR-S. For Land Rover, it includes the Freelander 2, Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover and the Range Rover Evoque.
JLR had made a big impact with showgoers at the Auto Expo in New Delhi earlier this year when it had showcased the Jaguar C-X75 hybrid supercar, C-X16 concept car and the Land Rover DC100 and DC100 Sport concepts.
