Jaguar XJ Overtakes Merc S Class, BMW 7 Series in the UK
Jaguar’s newest model—the XJ, is adding the much needed thrust to the British marque’s turnaround drive.
A month since its arrival at UK dealerships in May end, the XJ helped Tata Motors owned Jaguar to be the leader in a segment which has Mercedes Benz’s S Class and BMW’s 7 Series. According to Jaguar, 295 units of the XJ were sold as against 214 units of Merc’s S class and 173 BMW 7 series in June.Geoff Cousins, Managing Director, Jaguar UK said, "Like the XF, 60 per cent of people that have ordered an XJ are new to the Jaguar brand, with owners of premium German brands proving to be the keenest to buy an XJ”. Cosuins adds, “The modern Jaguar showroom is now complete – with the new XJ joining the XF and XK in UK showrooms during May”. The XF – the model that changed the ailing carmaker’s fortune also got a good response. 995 units of the XF were sold in the UK during June, a 12.6 percent improvement over 884 units sold in June ’09. For the January-June period, Jaguar’s sales in the UK grew 42.5 percent to 8309 cars.
