Hyundai Santro joins Mumbai's taxi fleet
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has handed over its first batch of Santros to the Mumbai Taxi Union. Mumbai city has around 50,000 black-and-yellow taxis which are to be replaced by new vehicles.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has handed over its first batch of Santros to the Mumbai Taxi Union. Mumbai city has around 50,000 black-and-yellow taxis which are to be replaced by new vehicles. In all, 7,000 old taxis will be replaced in the first phase. By December 2009, Hyundai plans to sell around 1,250 Santro taxis, of which 500 will be air-conditioned.

According to DC Seol, senior general manager, National Sales, HMIL, “The Santro is a proven and low-maintenance vehicle with lots of interior space and we are happy that the Taxi and Autorickshaw Welfare Sangh has also chosen the Santro for its fleet of cars."
