Hyundai Motor India, which is looking to up the ante in India’s compact SUV market with its new Venue – the Korean carmaker’s smallest SUV in India – today rolled out its first production-ready model from its Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai. It is also the first-ever Venue unit produced, globally. Hyundai plans to start selling the Venue SUV in the North American market soon.

The Venue rollout also marked Hyundai’s 23rd anniversary of its entry into India. The company has since become India’s second largest passenger vehicle manufacturer and a leading exporter. At present, Hyundai Motor India, which sold a total of 545,243 units in FY2019, has a 16.14 percent market share of the PV market. The Hyundai Venue will have its official market launch on May 21, 2019.

Speaking on the production rollout of the Venue, S S Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said, “This is a proud moment for us at Hyundai. On this day, 23 years ago, Hyundai entered India with a promise to make cars that will set new benchmarks in the industry. Today, we are set to create history again with the rollout of the Venue. Our future-ready plant is excellently equipped with smart engineering technology to create a game-changer SUV, the Hyundai Venue.”

The Venue is being produced at the company’s Chennai plant which is equipped with 590 generation 4 robots, quality and testing capabilities along with flexible engine plants.

The Venue will be available in four engine-gearbox combinations in India, starting from the Venue E variant and going up to the top-spec Venue SX (O) trim. The Venue will sit below the popular Hyundai Creta in Hyundai’s India line-up and will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV300, the Ford EcoSport, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon. Bookings for the Venue are currently in progress, with the booking amount set at Rs 21,000. It is understood that since bookings opened on May 2, they have crossed the 4,000 unit mark.
