Hero MotoCorp expands e-scooter range with new Vida V2
The new V2 electric scooter has three variants – Lite, Plus and Pro – all with different battery capacities.
Hero MotoCorp, which has had two electric scooters – the Vida V1 Plus and V1 Pro – has expanded its portfolio with the launch of the new Vida V2. The Vida 2 is essentially an evolution of the V1 range that the world’s largest ICE two-wheeler began its electric mobility journey in October 2022.
The Vida V2 is available in three variants: Lite (Rs 96,000), Plus (Rs 115,000) and Pro (Rs 135,000). The most affordable V2 Lite is an entirely new variant and comes with a small 2.2kWh battery pack that has a claimed 94km IDC range. It also has a lower 69kph top speed compared to the Plus and Pro variants, which have top speeds of 85kph and 90kph, respectively. Only two riding modes are available on the V2 Lite – Ride and Eco – but the rest of the feature-set is very similar to the other two, including the 7-inch touchscreen TFT display.
At Rs 96,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Hero Vida V2 is on par with the TVS iQube 2.2 and Bajaj Chetak 2903 models, both in terms of price and battery capacity.
The changes on the Vida V2 Plus and V2 Pro are rather difficult to make out. Essentially, these versions are uncannily similar to the V1 models, if not the same. The Rs 115,000 V2 Plus has a 3.44kWh battery pack, an 85kph top speed and a 143km claimed IDC range. The range-topper in the Vida V2 lineup is the Rs 135,000 V2 Pro, which has a 3.94kWh battery, 90kph top speed and a 165km claimed IDC range.
The Vida 2 e-scooter comes with a 5-year/50,000km warranty whereas the battery packs come with a 3-year/30,000km warranty.
Launching the latest Vida EV, Niranjan Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp, said: "The launch of the Vida V2, with variants across price segments, represents a significant milestone in our EV journey. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive ecosystem to customers that ensures a delightful ownership experience with convenient charging solutions and easily accessible service points. We will continue to meet customers' needs and expectations through a range of exciting products and best-in-class service."
Brand Hero Vida ranked fifth in India’s e-two-wheeler market
Hero MotoCorp, which is set to enter the electric motorcycle segment next year with a jointly developed midsize performance e-motorcycle with Zero Motorcycles of the USA, continues to see sales of its two Vida e-scooters improve month on month.
The company's Vida brand has slowly but steadily made inroads into the EV market. Vida V1 e-scooter sales numbers have grown strongly this year, particularly after July (5,066 units) when retail sales crossed the 5,000-unit mark for the first time.
Vida brand's 11-month retails of 42,625 units are up 347% YoY on a low year-ago base of 9,542 units. This gives Hero MotoCorp a 4% share for the year to date.
The company registered its best monthly retails in October (7,337 units) and hit 7,000-plus sales for the second month in a row in November (7,309 units). This much-improved performance is reflected in Hero MotoCorp’s growing market share, which has doubled to 6% from 3% in November 2024.
The Hero Vida brand's cumulative 11-month January-November 2024 retails at 42,625 units are a massive 347% YoY jump on a low year-ago base of just 9,542 units. This gives Hero MotoCorp a 4% share for the year to date.
Hero MotoCorp has started scaling up brand presence for Vida and its network currently stands at over 400 touchpoints and 500 service stations across 230 cities in India. The company already has around 2,500 charging stations in collaboration with Ather Energy, in which Hero MotoCorp is an early investor.
With the launch of this new affordable V2 Lite, and the growing network of Vida showrooms across India, expect the company be among the newsmakers in 2025.
