Harley Davidson to open bookings for Forty-Eight
Harley Davidson has said it will open bookings for the new Forty-Eight model, the latest addition to its India portfolio. The Forty-Eight will cost Rs 8,50,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and will be available at all Harley dealerships, in addition to the existing model line-up of 2011.
Harley-Davidson sells 14 models in India, some of which are assembled at its Haryana facility. In light of the government’s recent ruling on CKD imports which now attract a 30 percent customs duty, this is the first bike being imported under the new regime. The company has already said it will not increase prices for its bikes.
The Indian market for big bikes has been estimated at around 20,000 units per year. So far, the key players include BMW, Ducati and Honda, which plans to roll out the CBR 250R.
Harley-Davidson India commenced operations in August 2009 and appointed its first dealership in July 2010
