Gulf Oil links up with M&M

Gulf Oil Corporation, part of the Hinduja Group, aims to increase its marketshare by 15 percent in three years as a result of its first co-branding initiative with Mahindra & Mahindra. As part of this strategy, it launched the Gulf Super Diesel X-10 lubricant that has been developed for the M&M range of vehicles. The USP of the X-10 is an increased oil change drain interval up to 10, 000km.

Ravi Chawla, president, Lubes Business, said, “Our extensive and experienced distribution network will make it easier for a Mahindra vehicle owner to buy this product.”

The company has 300 distributors and an estimated 45,000 retailers. To promote the product, Gulf Oil will kick off several initiatives including advertising on cabs, in-flight TV, consumer campaigns and point-of-sale activities.

The X-10 will be available in packs of one, five and seven litres. Dr Y P Rao, senior vice-president –Technical, Gulf Oil said, “The X-10 will ensure superior performance under varied operating conditions.”

The X-10 is a SAE 15W-40 multi-grade engine oil that can be used in three-wheelers, light commercial vehicles and multi-utility vehicles. Gulf Oil reported an 8.5 percent increase in income in Q2 of 2010-11. Profit after tax was Rs 12.32 crore after considering a one-time impact due to suspension of operations at the Hyderabad works over one month. The loss in production and sales will be covered during the ensuing third and fourth quarters.
