GM India enters MPV segment, launches Enjoy

New Delhi, May 9, 2013: General Motors India has rolled out its latest next-generation multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Enjoy that forms part of the GM-SAIC product line. To be produced at the Halol plant in Gujarat, the Enjoy has a localisation content of 60 percent and comes in four trim levels with Smartech petrol and diesel variants. GM India has priced the Enjoy very competitively for an MPV – the 8-seater 1.4-litre 103bhp LS petrol variant is priced at Rs 5.49 lakh and the 7-seater LTZ variant at Rs 6.99 lakh. The 1.3-litre diesel-engined 76bhp LS Enjoy bears a sticker price of Rs 6.69 lakh with the LTZ variant priced at Rs 7.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). Both engines are mated to a five-speed transmission.

The engines are produced at the carmaker’s Talegaon plant on flexi lines which helps the company alternate between petrol and diesel engines as per changing market dynamics, said Lowell Paddock, president and MD. GM India has an engine production capacity of 160,000 units per annum.

However, despite current sluggish market conditions, he is confident that diesel will continue to garner demand due to its operating efficiencies. “We believe this is the right product for India in one of the fastest growing segments. As a new leader in the segment, we expect the Enjoy to be very popular. Its introduction is another sign of our commitment to make Chevrolet the most preferred vehicle brand in India.”

According to Paddock, the localisation of the Enjoy will benefit buyers through a lower cost of ownership as a result of lower part prices and the ready availability of spare parts.

The Enjoy will target large families and small businesses but Paddock says it will not cannibalise sales of the Tavera MUV as both are targeted at different segments with the BS-IV Tavera being a larger vehicle with a 10-seater option and available only in diesel.
